Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘idli vada’ joke about South Indian food backfires, but this is not the first time he’s spread stereotypes against the community.

Shah Rukh Khan’s recent joke at the Ambani pre-wedding celebrations has landed him in trouble with his South Indian fans. During the event, Shah Rukh Khan enjoyed himself with Aamir Khan and Salman Khan while dancing to the song “Naatu Naatu” from the Telugu movie RRR. However, things took a wrong turn when Shah Rukh Khan called Telugu film star Ram Charan on stage to dance with them. While doing so, Shah Rukh uttered some random phrases in Tamil instead of Telugu, the language spoken in Ram Charan’s home state. He ended the joke by referring to Ram Charan as “idli Ram Charan”. This has not gone down well with South Indians who have criticized Shah Rukh’s comments on social media.

While inviting the ‘Yevadu’ star on stage, Khan spoke a mix of Tamil and Telugu words and referred to him as ‘idli’.

“SRK has done this before, so this isn’t his first time.”

The Bollywood icon, Shah Rukh Khan, known for his recent controversial joke at an event celebrating the Ambani wedding, has faced backlash from his South Indian supporters regarding his stereotypical comments. Khan, alongside Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, engaged in festivities dancing to a Telugu song. However, when Khan invited Telugu star Ram Charan on stage, he mistakenly used Tamil phrases instead of Telugu, humorously labeling Ram Charan as “idli Ram Charan.” This act has triggered discontent among South Indians who condemn Khan’s statements on social media.

“Disappointed fans of SRK”

Shah Rukh Khan, a well-loved figure in South India with a significant fan base, saw this support falter following a recent incident involving Tollywood star Ram Charan. Many fans voiced their disappointment on social media platforms, criticizing Khan for his disparaging remarks about South Indian languages and referring to Ram Charan disrespectfully as “idli vada.” The incident led to Ram Charan’s makeup artist, Zeba Hassan, reportedly leaving the event due to Khan’s behavior. As the incident gained traction online, Khan’s public relations team faces challenges in managing the fallout. Some social media users condemned Khan’s recurring “idli vada” references from his movie Ra One, urging him to address the controversy and regain the trust of his Southern fans.
